The year is 1977. The fears that have been growing in people's hearts over the past few years have seemed to overtake the whole Wizarding world. Ideas that were once only dark, worried whispers have manifested themselves in the form of Voldemort and his Deatheaters. The threat of Voldemort gaining complete power is now even more evident as more and more people begin to disappear. His number of Deatheaters only seems to be growing, causing some people to go into hiding. In the middle of all of this, the Marauders begin their seventh year at Hogwarts, prepare for their NEWTS, and worry about a world that is constantly changing though they themselves have remained the same.
Sirius attracts hordes of girls, including the naive first years bedazzled by his smoldering looks. He has grown to enjoy the attention, and flirting has become a reflex. His friends have given up all hope of him ever having a serious relationship lasting more than a week but will Sirius forever be the eternal womanizer, or will his heart be tamed by someone special?
Then there is Lupin, the reserved and perceptive one of the bunch. For most of his life, he has had to deal with his werewolf affliction or as Sirius puts it, his “furry little problem”. Of course, dealing with his “curse” is easy with his friends’ loyalty but that doesn’t mean that Remus has stopped viewing himself as a monster. It doesn’t help much that the Wizarding world still views his kind as dangerous and the worry of graduating and being thrust out into the unkind world makes him more nervous than he would like to admit.
Poor Peter, he has been constantly overshadowed by his friends. Until now, he has been the follower, the unimaginative fourth wheel, the side-kick. But recently, his powers have been getting stronger, and he is starting to prove himself to be a competent wizard. The question is, how has he done it? Have the Marauders heard the rumors swirling of Wormtail's sinister loyalties? Or are those just, well, rumors, and nothing more?
Contrary to everybody's expectations, James has been appointed to the position of Head Boy. Lily, the Head Girl, was also bemused when she found out who she'd be working with. Perhaps Dumbledore has seen something in James that even she hasn't? So far Lily has managed to convince herself that James Potter is the last person on earth that she could ever see herself with. Now though, as she spends more time with him, she sees that her previous thoughts might be wrong. That maybe there is more to James than she thought.
While things play out for the students, they all find themselves thinking the same thing; nothing will ever be the same.
