Miri followed Vera outside Flourish and Blott's, adjusting the purse on her arm into a more comfortable position. Her eyes darted from a small ice cream stand to where Vera was looking, and she recognized with delight her friend Molly and Vera's cousin, Gerry. She knew Molly well, having shared a dorm with her for six years, and she knew Gerry from her many jaunts with Vera over the course of their school days. She never saw many of her Hogwarts friends during the summer, but she always saw the Blacks and a few other various families from the parties her mother through, and also her siblings' friends. She was quite glad to see the pair of them, and waved enthusiastically. "Hullo, you two!" She called, striding over as Vera did. "Nose-biting Teacups, eh? I'd watch myself if I were Gid or Fab. I'll come if with you if you'll come with me to that quill stand over there." She pointed to a large cart a short distance away. "My cat tore my last one to shreds, and I recently received this marvelous color-changing ink. You just tap it and say what color you want, though what shade you get depends." She grinned ruefully, then looked around when Molly said the name of her childhood friend. She spotted him and noticed his seemingly foul mood. She new Walburga wasn't speaking to him, and that he'd gone to the Potter's, but that wouldn't trouble him. She scanned the crowd around her and noticed the probable cause of his disagreeable disposition. Bellatrix and Regulus Black were walking in the opposite direction, and she would have bet all she owned this was what had troubled him. She shook her head. They were never on good terms. She disliked both of them herself, but thought Sirius ought to give them a little grace. His family wasn't exactly known for it's support of benevolence. She took a few steps toward him and waved. "Hullo, Sirius! Fancy seeing you here!"

Sirius was jerked out his bad mood hearing his name. He stopped and wheeled around, already tuning on the confident, easy going grin. "Ladies!" he beamed, his arms wide open. He looked at Gerry, who was looking a little indignant at being ignored. "What, I said ladies?" he joked innocently, then laughed, "Kidding. How are you, Molly? And Miri, haven't seen you two in yonks." He smiled at Vera, his long time mate and sometimes snogee, and picked her up, whirling her around, trying to make her squeal. Replacing her on the pavemnet, his mood was rapidly improving. He felt a lot more comfortable with his friends from Hogwarts. His cousin and brother dissapeared from both his veiw and thoughts, surrounded as he was by his close friends.

"Sure Molly." Gerry said with an eyeroll. She was right but he wanted to piss her off a bit. "I know I'm good looking. No need to be ashamed of wanting to bask in my brilliance." he joked. He acted offended at her comment about his "undiluted Gerry-ness" and turned his head away.
"Of course I'll come along! I just need to make a quick stop with Miri to pick up some quills." Vera laughed. She wasn't too suprised to see Molly and Gerry using their usual banter with each other. She shook her head at the two of them.
Gerry siled at Miri when she joined them. He didn't know her as well as he knew the others but, she was still a friend. "That ink sounds rad. I might have to pick some up myself. Do you think they sell it with the quills?" he asked her, still pretedning to ignore Molly for her comment. He truned around at the sound of Sirius' name. He only knew one Sirius and that would be Sirius Black. He waved as Sirius joined them and then quickly frowned at the lady comment. "Jeez! Is it 'Pick on Gerry Day' alraedy?" he joked.
"That ink does sound cool, Miri. It could come in handy for class. Might cure my boredom." Vera mused. She turned just as Gerry did an saw Sirius Black, one of her closest friends and not too far behnd him she saw his younger brother, Regelus and his cousin Bellatrix. She frowned at the sight of them but her frown quickly turned into a huge grin as Sirius picked her up. "It's good to see you too." she laughed as he set her down. She and Sirius were always very close, sometimes a bit too close to the pint where thgey would occasionally snog. "So, what brings you here?" she asked him still grinning.

"I heard you fine ladies were in town and coudln't resist" he teased, grinning a mile wide. He jerked his thumb over his shoulder in the general direction of Gringrotts. "Actually I was getting my Muggle money changed. I bartend near James' place. I need a couple of books, and some more, shall we say, supplies?" he gestured towards the joke shop behind them. "Gerry, have you not learned by now? Every day is pick on Gerrry day!" he teased, grinning.

"I'm great, thank you, and your mood seems to be drastically improving," Molly replied, joining in the infectious laughter. "Sorry Gerry, it seems that today is the day to pick on you... though I don't really think it's so much of a 'day' for me... more like: Today is just another day to pick on Gerry in my fantastic pick-on-Gerry lifestyle," she couldn't help it when her grin widened, as cruel as it sounded, she couldn't help admitting how often she made fun of him. It wasn't like he never dished it out himself though.
"So we'll stop for quills on our way to Zonko's then? I'd be a hypocrite if I scolded you for wanting more 'supplies' as you called them. I'm in need of some 'supplies' too," Molly continued, stressing the supplies as though they were some contraband items that should not be named in so public a place as Diagon Alley.

Miri grinned at the others' repartee. She loved it here, surrounded by happy friends, just hanging out without a care in the world. The many rumors about a powerful Dark wizard and his growing band of supporters seemed silly now, as if they were just stories to make little children behave. It hadn't been that way in the summer, but now, in Diagon Alley, joking and chatting, she felt as if she were free of all the worries that had ever plagued her. She laughed as everyone began to joke about Gerry. "Pick on Gerry Day? Oh, this isn't normal?" She asked, smirking. "They might. Although, the cart doesn't look that big... My mum picked up the ink from that shop in Hogsmeade, you know, next the the Quidditch supply store?" Miri loved Quidditch. She hoped to someday become a Beater on an international team, though she had always been to shy to try out for the Gryffindor one. She had been into both stores many, many times, though not as many times as she had been in Honeyduke's. She absolutely loved sweets, all different kinds, and couldn't resist the lure of brightly colored candy in glittering jars in storefronts. "Ah. Supplies." She giggled. "Of course. I wish I had time to get some for use on my brother, but he's away for the time being..." Miri sighed wistfully. "But that's okay. I'll just help you with your brothers, Molly dear. I'm sure you could use the help." She winked at Molly, who was quite capable of pranking her brothers without anyone's assistance.

"Is he that bad, Miri?" Sirius asked absently. He bet her brother wasn't as bad as his. Or maybe he was - how the heck should he know. Either way, he knew that his brother would never fall for him offering sweets. In fact, there would be more chance of his brother accepting something Sirius had admitted to poisoning than something he was offering as a "friend."
"Where are Gideon and Fabian, Molly?" he asked, looking for her two redheaded brothers. Then it occurred to him they would have headed straight for the nearest sweet shop. He was thoughtful now rather than angry - his brother was the same age as Molly's two were. He was glad he didn't have that responsibility - not that his parents would ever even tell him to keep an eye on Regulus - it would have been the other way around.
Boy was he doing way too much thinking and not enough talking.
"I need a new quill, actually," Sirius admitted, "I broke my old one trying to pull a prank on James that kinda backfired." He grimaced at the memory, trying to ignore the curious looks. "Don't make me talk about it, it's too embarrassing. Oh, but first.." he grabbed a few knuts and brought an ice cream - fruit sorbet. "Being around all you lovely ladies has made me all hot." he joked, digging in. His dark hair got in his eyes and he flicked it away, grinning with mischief. Oh this was so much better. He had, as a matter of fact, broken his quill constructing a device that involved rope, a muggle clothes hanger and the belt loop of James' jeans. He had been spotted and had fallen out of the tree he had been hiding in, and, the rope left dangling, had been hoisted up by his own jeans and left to dangle all afternoon. His quill, which he had wedged onto the rope as a safety, had snapped and he had crashed into a bush. He smiled, the edges of his mouth lifting into a handsome grin as he ate his ice cream.

"They ran off as soon as mum turned them loose. I think they went to Honeyduke's, but you can never be sure with them," Molly's tone was slightly disapproving, but there was an undercurrent of something else. As much warring the Prewetts did among themselves, they were actually a very supportive and happy trio.
"Oh, but now you've got me interested, Sirius. You can't just tell me not to ask..." Molly smiled again, pranks gone wrong were some of her favorite stories to hear. She enjoyed them greatly from her brothers, not so much when she was telling them herself though... Funny how that worked out.
Molly rolled her eyes as Sirius managed to write off his empty stomach on the 'lovely ladies'. He was definitely a schmooz if she'd ever seen one. Able to compliment everyone with something as common and unrelated as hunger. He certainly had a talent for flattery. "Oh look, there's Alecto Carrow," Molly said, indicating a rather unpleasent Slytherin across the street, "I'm sure hanging out with her would cool you down, Sirius." Molly smiled at the irony. She doubted any of the people standing around her would want to go talk to Alecto, she had a reputation for being nasty.

Gerry hung his head in mock shame and let out a sigh. "Man, it sucks being Gerry..." he said sadly. He shot Sirius a bit of a look after he picked up his cousin. Gerry knew perfectly well about Sirius' reputation and about his cousin's less-then-clean one as well, and he really wouldn't like it if the two of them were together. It would almost certainly lead to trouble. He looked awa from the pair and answered Molly's retort about her "Pick-on-Gerry Lifestyle". "Really, Molly? That's funny because I happen to be practicing the Pick-On-Molly Lifestyle." he replied, sticking his tounge out at her.
He let out a gasp when Miri also voiced her opionon about teasing him. "Miri too? Jesus, it really sucks to be Gerry." he joked. Miri was one of the sweetest girls he knew and he liked to tease her about it every now and then. He rolled his eyes at Sirius' comment about the "lovely ladies". The guy was a flirt, and didn't seem to be too well at covering it up. He turned to Molly and Miri and pretended to gag.
Vera lost track of the conversation. Everyone was talking so quickly that she completely spaced out. All she knew was that they were off to get quills and supplies from Zonko's. She blinked and shook her head, snapping out of her trance. She caught Gerry giving her a look after Sirius twirled her around a bit to which she blushed slightly. Gerry and Sirius had always gotten along alright although she knew that Sirius wasn't Gerry's favorite person in the world. She knew he would fip if he found out about her and Sirius' little "friends with benefits" thing. She shook all thoughts from her mind and tried to focus on everyone else.
"I could use some too." she said about the stuff from Zonko's, pinting at Gerry while he wasn't looking. She had never really met Molly or Miri's brothers and only knew them by name. "How's your brother doing, Miri?" she asked. She had always wanted siblings but only had Gerry who she loved but didn't see as often as she would have liked. Even Vera couldn't hep but roll her eyes at Sirius' tacky comment. "Thanks, Sirius. Nice to know that I'm thought of whenever you think of ice-cream." she said sarcastically. "I hope you don't use that line often. It won't get you anywhere." she teased with a playful wink. "So, are we going to go grab our crap or what?" she asked the group, anxious to get to Zonko's. She was need of some "supplies" as well, it was payback for Gerry's laziness.

"Eh, you know Mark. Stuck up git." She shrugged, then tried not to laugh at Sirius' comment and Gerry's response. She looked back at Sirius, with his ice cream, and decided she would like some too. She strode over to the cart, surveying its contents with a smile. "They all look good! How can one choose?!" In the end, she handed over the two knuts in exchange for a scoop of plain old chocolate with sprinkles on top. "Chocolate just doesn't taste right without sprinkles..." she commented absently, licking her cone.
"Hah, because standing here commenting on lousy pick up lines is so much more productive then walking, Vera." Miri retorted with a wink. "Let's go!"

Molly, acting ten years younger than she was, stuck her tongue out at Gerry, mimicking him. "It just so happens that you are a very easy guy to pick on, Gerry. And you take it so well that it makes it hard for people to not tease you." Molly was grinning widely at Gerry, as she often did when they spoke. It was just something about him that could put her in a really good mood in only a few minutes.
"I agree. Time to get going," Molly replied to Miri, starting off towards where she knew the quills would be. But she thought better about it and stopped a few meters away, looking back at the group, "Aren't you coming?" She thought for a moment on whether getting quills was really on her list of things to do, it wasn't actually. Her mum and dad had given her a new set just before arriving in London, and they were not worn out at all. Molly shrugged internally, she'd stay with the group and look at quills, Zonko's would be the stop after that. At the thought of Zonko's, she smiled again, no doubt her face had been serious only a moment ago.
