Miri grinned at her housemate. "You might act like a bum, but I can't imagine you looking like one. You have such great clothes!" She gestured to Vera's dress. "I know! I mean, why put 'The art of transforming' in the title? Isn't that, like, exactly what Transfiguring is?" She shrugged. "Definitely redundant." She pulled her newly purchased journal out. It had a blue iris on it, her favorite flower. "I haven't had a diary in years... But it was on sale." Miri flipped through the pages. She had always been money conscious, but could never pass up a good buy if she saw it. Especially things with irises on them.

"Now now, Gerry, we don't think we're better than you Americans... we know we are," Molly straightened in her chair to look as proper as possible. She gave Gerry a downcast look (which was sort of difficult because he's so tall) and shook her head, "Oh dear. This one may be a lost cause. Let's ship him off to a British boarding school to salvage what we can. Tsk tsk. Violent Americans." The pose didn't hold very well, and Molly started laughing. It felt really good to hang out with Gerry again, she hadn't been able to just banter like this with her other friends... mainly because they were not American. In Molly's experience, Americans were the best at bantering, though to be honest Gerry was the only American she was actually friends with.

Vera chuckled at Miri's comment. "Thanks Miri but we all know that I'm going to wind up living in a box on a street when I'm older." she stopped to think for a moment "Although, my box would be the party box that all of the other bums would want to hang out in." she joked. She laughed a bit at her own little joke because it would probably be true, no matter what situation she's in, Vera was always up for a party. Why would living in a box be any different? She stopped laughing and shook her head, "Honestly, I found that really irritating. I'm not an idiot. I know what Transfiguration means. That book shuld be burned because of it's stupid title." she said with a shudder. Vera wasn't really the sharpest crayon in the box but she still knew bloddy well what Transfiguartion was, thank you very much! Her blue eyes scanned over the diary in Miri's hand. "That's lovely. I've just started a journal of my own, just to get thoughts and crap down but I do like yours, it's cute." she said with a smile. The flowery design on the book seemed to match Miri's personality. It was cute and sweet, just like Miri.
Gerry shook his head at Molly's wit. "Really? Do you Brits have awesome TV shows? I think not! Or cool 'staches? I think not! America is far superior in our TV and our facial hair." Gerry joked. So, those weren't the best examples of superiority but he didn't care. It was still fun and someone like him would only focus on facial hair. He fake gasped when Molly mentioned boarding school "How dare you!" he exclaimed and then thought for a minute. "Wait a minute, I already go to Hogwarts. Isn't that a British boarding school?" he asked, with another chuckle. This was definately more fun than babysitting Vera. Now that he thought about it, what was taking her so long with getting her books?

Miri laughed. "A party box... Now I've heard everything." She shook her head in mock disapproval. It was probably true, though, she thought. Vera was and probably always will be a party animal. Looking around, Miri had a strange sense that something was missing. She thought for a second, then decided she knew what it was. "Vera... Where's Gerry? You always are together, and I think he probably would have arrived here in England by now. Unless he ditched you for food. I could totally see him doing that." She glanced at the book list again. "And the rest of these titles! 'The Advanced Book of Herbology for a Younger to Middle-aged Person or Student'. Uhmm... Please enlighten me on why Sprout would even look at a title like this! She's always struck me as a down-to-earth person, no pun intended, but she's not that young anymore..." Miri's voice trailed off, hinting at the possibility of their assertive teacher becoming senile. "Naw. She's, like, immortal. Thanks, though. I just can't pass up anything with irises on it. Especially when it's on sale... But anyway, I heard a rumor that the Muggle Studies professor is requiring the students to buy a journal, and if they don't, the boys get fluffy pink ones and the girls get... I dunno. Maybe camo or something. But I dropped the class after third year. The only thing I did was sleep in class."

"Okay, I admit, your facial hair is much more original and... well more present in general. We Brits know that moustaches are too western. Unless you count the tiny ones that some business men keep, but I'm not sure they do count." Molly laughed again, only Gerry would think to bring up moustaches. She swallowed the last bit of her cone she was chewing on and continued, "Yes. And sadly, I think Hogwarts is the only place that can set you right." Molly glanced down the street where her brothers had disappeared, hopefully they didn't find Nocturne Alley too interesting. Molly had gone through a lot of trouble getting them out of there before without their parents knowing. Those two boys were just mischief waiting to happen.

Gerry chuckled at Molly's reply, "Yeah, you Brits have sissy 'staches. Us Americans have much manlier 'staches which just adds to our overall awesomeness." Gerry couldn't help but laugh at his own ridiculous argument. Most people would think he's incredibly insane but Molly didn't seem too suprised that he'd think to bring up mustaches, it was probably because she was fully aware of his incredibly bizarre sense of humor.
"I'm not too sure. I mean look at Vera. She's been at Hogwarts just as long as I have and she hasn't changed one bit. She's still psychotic." he joked. He loved poking fun at Vera, it was so easy, the girl was a dumb blonde joke waiting to happen plus, she loved to poke fun at herself which made it even better because if she wasn't like that, he would be dead by now after some of the shit he's said.
"Ha! Don't worry, Miri, even if you won't be a bum you'd still be more than welcome to join me!" she joked. She could picture it now, she'd be in a small cardboard box dancing with other bums and having a total blast. So she might not look very attracative but, it wouldn't matter because do bums really care about looks? She was sure that all they really wanted to do was party and she'd be the one to provide the partying. Her little daydream was interrupted by Miri's comment about Gerry. She shook her head and snorted "Yeah, the jerk ditched me for ice-cream. No suprise there, he thinks only through his stomach." she said with a slight smirk.
"Too late, miri. You made the pun, now you have to live with the consequences." Vera said, laughing hysterically. "Aw, man! That was a good one!" she said still giggling. She stopped laughing long enough to hear what Miri had to say about Muggle Studies. "That sounds pretty cool actually." she ahd never really been in Muggle Studies before and it always sounded like an interesting class to her.

"Tsk tsk, Gerry. You shouldn't be so harsh on your cousin. Though, you Americans always are rather severe, despite your superior moustaches," Molly started to laugh again at Gerry's increasingly bizarre argument. She should have been used to it by now. They had gotten into an conversation about the importance of cream cheese on bagels last year, for goodness' sake.
"Hey Gerry, I want to go get some Nose-Biting Teacups from Zonko's. I need to get back at my brothers for their last trick. Wanna come with and help me plan my revenge?" Molly smiled mischievously. The prank war didn't stop when school began between Molly and her brothers, and it was her turn. Though in all honesty, she was running out of good ideas, her very best tricks, she and Eddie had pulled in the summer. She figured Gerry and Vera would be able to come up with something good between the two of them.

"Yes, but it's true. Vera is quite the crazy chick." Gerry said, laughing. Molly probably knew that better than anyone else. She too had often been roped into his cousin's crazy schemes."Yeah, right. America Severe? Ha! Clearly, you haven't been in England long, dear." he challenged, shaking his head. He was always poking fun at his British friends because of England's stickler reputation. America had always seemed much more relaxed to him but of course, as a Brit, Molly wouldn't agree.
He thought about her proposition for a minute. "Zonko's, eh? You know, I haven't been there in ages. I'll come along." he said, glad that he was given the chance to spend some more time with Molly and then he remembered that he had left Vera in the bookstore by herself. "I'll just need to let Vera know so she doens't get confused or anything. I hope you don't mind." he added in. Although, Vera should've been done by now, if she had done what he thought she did which was getting someone else to do her dirty work for her.

"I think I've been in Britain for quite long enough to know how harsh you Americans are, dear," Molly said, stressing the endearment Gerry had used. She had missed this America vs Britain banter over the summer. All of her friends at home were too polite to argue like this, not that it was actually arguing in Molly's sense of the word.
"That's great! But of course I'll have a problem with seeing Vera, because you know how much we hate each other," Molly rolled her eyes and shook her head, why wouldn't she want to see the other Claythorne? They were a couple of her favorite people to hang out with. "Where'd you say Vera was, anyway? I think you mentioned it earlier, but I was too caught up in our very important debate about moustaches," ah sarcasm. Something she hadn't gotten to use very often over the summer, it certainly was one the better things the Americans had made popular.

Miri laughed along with Vera, more at her previous comments than her own pun. "Yes, Gerry would definitely choose ice cream over a book store. He really does love you, though. I think it'd be more apropos if you were siblings." She tucked the diary into her book bag, looking around the rest of the store. She thought about everything she needed, and deciding she needn't linger any longer, she turned back to Vera. "Hey, I really need some new quills. I think I passed a stall on my way here, wanna come? She thought about her favorite quill, a turquoise blue one, which lay in shreds on her floor back home. Having accidentally left it on her rug when writing a letter, her cat Gracie had demolished it while she was eating lunch. Her spare quills were looking pretty sorry too.

Gerry couldn't think up a clever reply. He paused for a minute to think but had nothing. Instead, he just stuck his tounge out at her. "Yup. That's right. I went there." he said crossing his arms. Why? Because, he's that awesome, according to himself of course.
Shaking his head and laughing he said "Right, of course how could I forget your hatred for each other?". He knew that plenty of people did hate his cousin but Molly definately wasn't one of them. "I meant, would you mind if we made a quick stop just to get her. Not if you minded actually seeing her." he said, still shaking his head. "She's in that bookstore across the street." he said pointing it out to her.
"True. We do love each other to death. But, I think he loves ice-cream more." she joked. She looked at her list and was glad to see that she had gotten everything she needed. "Yeah. I don't mind." she said "I'm just going to pay for these books and then we'll set out.". She made her way over to the counter and quickly paid for her school books. She waved for Miri to follow her and the two wlaked outside.
Gerry looked at the bookstore again and saw his cousin and another girl who looked familiar leave the bookstore. "Actually, I don't think we have to go get her." he said to Molly and then waved his cousin over.
Vera spotted a familiar American waving at her and couldn't help but grin. "Oi! Gerry! Long time no see!" she called out with a smirk.

Molly chuckled at Gerry's would-be clever reply. She couldn't even keep a straight face to make a reply to Gerry about how she hated Vera. It would be blasphemous to say such a thing again. "Is that Miri with Vera? What a small world it is..." Molly smiled as she saw the two girls exiting the bookstore. Molly started bouncing in her seat, she hadn't seen these girls for far too long. "Finally, some Gryffindors to hang out with," Molly commented, obviously trying to goad Gerry. She expected that she failed miserably though, because she was just too excited about seeing her old friends. "And what about me, Vera? Aren't you going to say hi to me?" Molly tried to sound offended, but she failed at that as wholly as she failed at holding a straight face.

"Molly Prewett! Is that really you?" Vera gasped. She took off and charged at the pair and gave Molly a hug. "It's been ages!" she said excitedly. She was glad to see her friend again. "So, what're you doing with this one?" she asked, pointing to Gerry. She loved to bust Gerry's chops. It was a hobby of hers.
"I knew I knew who that other girl was." Gerry replied, recognising Miri, another friend of his cousin. He knew Miri too but not as well as Molly and Vera did. Mainly because he was a Ravenclaw while the three of them were Gryffindors. "Hey Miri!" he called out, waving to the girl. It had been a long time since he saw her too.
He pretended to act offended at Molly's remark about Ravenclaws. "That was a bit of a low blow, Molly." he said, pretending to be upset. He turned his back to her and waved again as his cousin joined them. "Well, Molly saw me getting ice-cream and thought "Gee, it's that amazingly good-looking Gerry guy. I think I should say hello." and then came over to speak to me." he said, immitating Molly.
"Molly, I would've ran away as fast as I could if it were me." Vera joked. She loved her friends and she loved how they got along with her cousin. It defiantely made life easier. She didn't have to worry about fights or anything which was a huge relief being as Vera hated fighting. "So, what are you two up to?" she asked.

Post by Sirius Black on Apr 13, 2009 18:58:03 GMT -5
Sirius brushed his dark unruly hair from his eyes and peered up the street, blinking in the sunlight after the dingy noise of the leaky cauldron. He wore black jeans, combat boots, a pinstriped shirt and a black coat, which went down to just above his knees. Hie eyes were dark, and glittered with something, something that would be, in later years, be labeled as insanity.
He smiled and walked out into the sunshine, stowing his wand back into his pocket, blinking. He had a big wodge of Muggle money - he had been working most of July, bar tending at a muggle pub, and was going to change the money at Gringrotts. James was busy - probably off someplace stalking Lily. Or he would if he was that type. James would only stalk someone if he was planning to jump out at them. Goodness knows what James would be up to, but Sirius was determined to find him and they had planned to sneak into Knockturn alley and fetch back some School equipment of their own.
Walking into Gringrotts, Sirius was intimidated. The goblins always looked at him as if he had done something wrong. In school, this was the expression the teachers invariably regarded both James and him with, but here it was just plain scary. He licked his lips and walked up to a goblin and cleared his throat.
"Can I change some muggle money?" he asked, placing his earnings on the table. The goblin put the money on a scale and put a lid over it. He tapped it with his long finger and gold coins appeared at the other side of the scales. The goblin looked at him down a long hooked nose.
"Do you want it depositing in you account or will you be taking it all with you." Sirius was NOT going down that crazy tunnel ride, he'd take it all with him.
"I'll take it all please." a few minutes later he was back in the sunlight, feeling cautiously optimistic. He decided to head for Fluorish and Blotts, to get school books. He could also stop off at the joke shop opposite. Perfect!
It was rounding the corner that lead to the part of that cramped, ever so amazing alley that Sirius' day took a downturn. This downturn took the shape of his cousin and brother, whom he hated with all his person, and they him. He managed to walk headlong into them.
The look that passed between them was almost solid. Sirius set his jaw and glared sullenly at Bellatrix and Regelus, and they stared haughtily back, matching him look for look. The confrontation was so fierce, though nothing was said and no wands were drawn. They both looked well groomed, and he could see they were both sporting very expensive robes. They obviously didn't need to worry about money. They weren't pushing pints in some bar. Bellatrix looped her arm around Regelus' and led him away. "We don't mingle with blood traitors and scum." she said, her pale face daring Sirius to challenge her. He shoved silently past them and was in such a foul temper that he didn't stop at his destination - instead he hurtled headlong past the book shop, and also past the ice cream stand full of Gryffindors. He hated them, he would never stop, they were foul, and twisted...

Molly laughed as Vera nearly tackled her. "I think you are mistaken," she corrected after Gerry's bad imitation of her, "I believe it was you who saw me sitting here and decided to say hello. There was no escape," Molly feigned despair in response to Vera's comment. She grinned mischievously at her friends, there was no end to the joking when Molly was around these two cousins, and she had missed it over summer.
"I just asked Gerry if he wanted to come to Zonko's with me, I'm in need of some good Nose-Biting Teacups. I figured I'd be polite and not abandon him here, you'd be my hero if you both came along and spared me the undiluted Gerry-ness," Molly continued to smile throughout her explanation. Melodramatic expressions were fun to use around Vera and Gerry, mainly because she knew they wouldn't take them seriously.
Molly's eyes strayed as she saw someone storm down the street. It only took her a minute to recognize him, he was a very familiar face. She lost her train of thought concerning the conversation. He seemed to be toubled. "Sirius?"
