"Gid! Mum to you not to buy any sweets with that money! It's for books! Not food! Fabian! Not you too!" she shouted at her brothers' backs, their forms getting smaller as they ran towards the sweet shop. Molly hit her forehead with the palm of her hand which created a sharp thwack. She continued to mutter, annoyed with the irresponsibilty of her brothers, "'Just make sure they get their books, Molly, we'll be back later.' That's what mum said, but did she know how hard that little request would be to fulfill? No, it shouldn't be so hard at all, they are only two sixteen year old boys. Not to mention they're Gideon and Fabian. It shouldn't be any trouble at all. What was mum thinking?" Molly turned around and headed down the street away from her brothers, they'd be fine. She wasn't going to worry about them. Molly shifted her sweatshirt so her bag would rest more comfortably across her shoulder. She continued down the street to where an ice cream trolley stood. "A scoop of peppermint bon bon please. On a cone, thank you," Molly smiled at the man scooping the ice cream. "That'll be two Knuts, miss," he held out the cone and took the two bronze coins from Molly. She found a little table near the trolley and sat in one of the white metal chairs. She could use a few of her coins to buy ice cream if her brothers were going to blow all of theirs on Bertie Botts Every Flavor Beans.

"I'm a growing man, Vera! I need to eat!" Gerry Claythorne whined as he struggled to keep up with his cousin. "I promise we'll eat when I find this bloody book." Vera replied curtly. Gerry rolled his soft brown eyes and let out a sigh. He had warned his cousin not to put off school supply shopping until the last minute but, of course she didn't listen and now he was being dragged along with her as she shopped for whatever she needed for the new term at Hogwarts. When you first saw the Claythornes, you would never tell that they were related. Gerry was tall with thick brown curls and chocolate brown eyes while Vera was also quite tall and spidery with golden blonde hair and blue eyes. Another huge difference between the two was that Gerry had a New York accent while Vera had a prominent British accent. But, they were nearly inseperable and their differences never stopped that.
Gerry was in England because there were only three weeks left until school started. He was the more practical one out of the pair and had ordered his supplies ahead of time so he can pick them up when he came to Diagon Alley. "Vera. You're going the wrong way." he said a bit impatiently and grabbed her arm. "I know exactly where I'm going, Gerry."she said, dragging him with her. "I know a short cut."she added in. Gerry shook his head and followed Vera as she made her way towards the book store they were looking for. He spotted a little ice-cream cart across the street and stopped, his stomach grolwing. "Vera, how about, you go in and get your books while I go get some ice-cream? Sound like a plan?" he asked, hoping she'd agree so he can be free and finally eat something. With a sigh she smiled, "Alright. I promise, I'll be right out."she said and walked into Flourish & Blott's leaving Gerry behind to get an ice-cream. He walked acros the street to the little cart and fanned himself, it was hot out and he wasn't exactly dressed for the weather, he was wearing a pair of jeans and a black Led Zeppelin t-shirt and he felt quite miserable. Usually, it was colder in England during the summer and he wasn't prepared for the heat. "Hi! I'll have....hmmm..." Gerry pondered as he tried to decide which flavor of ice-cream he wanted. He looked up and saw a familiar face eating an ice-cream cone of her own. "Molly?" he asked. But, he knew it was her, after all, how many other red-heads were there? Well, there was always Lily Evans but that was besides the point. "Ha! Doesn't suprise me, that I'd find you here." he chuckled.
Vera entered Flourish & Blott's with a small grin. Nothing could keep Gerry from eating and she figured she owed him for dragging him all through London and Diagon Alley. Plus, she was getting tired of his whining and complaining. She opened the door and walked inside the bookstore and frowned. It was a lot bigger than she remembered and there were a lot more people than she had expected. She saw a couple of familiar faces from around Hogwarts but nobody she knew too well. She let out a sigh as she looked around the crowded store and to her list of books and supplies she needed. She had gotten just about everything else earlier and had them sent to her house so she wouldn't have to carry everything around all day. But, the books were definately being a pain in the ass. Her bright blue eyes scanned the store for the Potions section. She might as well start there first.
She walked towards the Potions section and began her search for "7th Year Potions: Advanced Potions for the Older Student", she rolled her eyes at the ridiculous title and started looking for the book. "Vera? Vera Claythorne?" an irritatingly familiar voice called out, and Vera winced. She turned around alowly aand smiled weakly at the boy who had called her name. It was Tom Bennett, a former boyfriend of hers. "Tom! I didn't....er...see you there." she said, biting her lip. Tom was a year older than her and had graduated from Hogwarts last year. She had broken up with him in march after dating him for two months because she thought he was a bit clingy. "Well, here I am! And look at you, you look quite yellow today!" he laughed. Vera winced again at how painfully awkward the situation was and looked down at her clothes. She was wearing a bright yellow sundress that went down to her knees and a matching yellow headband. "Right." she said, laughing nervously. Tom cleared his throat and said "Well, it was nice seeing you again.". He waved and walked off. Vera let out a sigh of relief and went back to looking for her book. "That was awkward...." she mumbled to herself, hoping she wouldn't run into anyone else.

Molly had been lost in thought when she heard her name, someone was trying to get her attention. Her attention focused on her ice cream again, and she looked around to find out who was speaking. She squinted when she tried to see the speaker, the sun was rather bright and Molly couldn't quite tell who it was... that is, until he spoke again. She knew that voice. "Gerry?" No mistaking his giant-self now that she knew what to look for. "Yes, well... I do enjoy ice cream, and it is quite good ice cream weather," Molly began to grin as she spoke. She was hoping to run into someone here so she wouldn't have to be responsible and go after her brothers. "It makes me wonder why you don't have any... I always thought you were another perpetually hungry person. Maybe I was wrong though," the mock disappointment was obvious in her tone. Molly took an expert ice-cream-lick to stop the melting ice cream from running onto her hand, she'd had lots of practice at her work during the summer. When you worked at an ice cream shop, you learned pretty quickly how to eat ice cream without getting messy. Molly glanced behind and around Gerry, then looked with a measure of confusion at him, "Where's Vera? Aren't you two joined at the hip or something?"

Gerry nodded in agreement. "Yes, it is freakin' hot." he said, fanning himself once more. He was glad he had run into Molly. She was a friend of his and Vera's that he had met last year when he had accidnetally scared the crap out of her in the Forbidden Forest. " I am hungry and was about to get myself an ice-cream cone when I was blinded by your red hair." he teased. Gerry laughed at Molly's comment about he and Vera, "The procrastinator's across the street buying her books. She of course dragged me along with her but I was so tempted by the ice-cream that I let her go into the bookstore alone." he replied and then thought for a minute, " Although, Now that I think about it, leaving her alone wasn't the smartest thing for me to do. She might get a papercut or something." he joked. His stomach still growling, he looked at the ice-cream vendor and couldn't resist it any longer. " I'll have a butter-pecan cone, please." he said, quickly paying the two Knuts and grabbing his cone. He smiled sheepishly at Molly "Sorry, I couldn't wait any longer.".

Molly blushed lightly, then smiled, "Well, my hair does have that effect sometimes." She looked over at the door to Flourish & Blotts, not that it was possible to see anything behind it, the glass was reflecting the sun. "Yes, procrastinators seem to be popular today. My brothers are off getting school supplies, though if I'm correct, they'll be buying sweets instead and mum will have to buy their books tonight before dinner," she shook her head as she imagined her brothers filling their pockets with licorice wands. "I don't mind at all. It was sort of lonesome eating ice cream all by myself, I was actually hoping I'd find someone from school here."

Gerry licked his ice-cream and listened to Molly. "Ha! I wouldn't be surprised if Vera did the same! You know how she is." he laughed. He loved Vera to death but she could be very childish at times and she would most definitely spend all of her money on sweets if given the opportunity. He nodded and said " Yeah, I was hoping I'd come across someone I knew too. I'm glad I found you though, Molly.". It was true, he really was Glad he found Molly. She was a really nice girl and fun to talk to. "So, how has your summer been so far?" he asked her with another grin. He lived in Queens, New York and hung out with his Muggle friends during the summer but was always happy to visit England.

Miri strode through the doorway into Diagon Alley, breathing deeply to take in the initial shock of it all. Crowds of people, glittering store fronts, and waves of sounds washed over her as she stepped into the crowd of people walking down the main street. Her father's voice reached her ears; they were going to Madam Malkin's to see her sister. Miri adjusted her pale blue shirt as she reached for her purse, pulling out her book list. "All right," she said to herself, "first stop- Florish and Blott's." She determinedly strode towards the bookstore, reviewing the list as she went. A new book for every subject, and she needed other things as well. Digging through her purse, she found her wallet and shook it. Grinning at the sound, she pushed open the door to the book shop and walked in, getting jostled by a wizard in a dark blue robe and hat. The crowds were slightly less thick here, and she made her way to the Transfiguration section without difficulty. Scanning the shelves, she found the book she was looking for and moved on. Next came the Herbology, Charms, and Study of Ancient Runes sections, followed by Arithmancy and the rest of her subjects. Finally she headed to get the last book on her list, which happened to be for Potions. She started toward the collection of shelves near the back of the store, a large pile of books stacked precariously in her arms. Sighting a familiar face, she stepped around a pudgy witch reading 'A Hundred and One Uses for Asphodel' and tiptoed over to Vera. Taking up a position directly behind her, she airily remarked, "Interesting title, don't you think?"

Vera jumped at the sound of the voice behind her, dropping her Potions book. She turned around and let out a sigh of relief at the sight of her housemate, Miri Holbrem. "Jeez, Miri! You scared the hell out of me!"she laughed, bending down to pick up her book. She was glad it was someone she knew and not a complete and total stranger. Although, according to Vera's mother, Reed, Vera has never been taught not to talk to strangers because she's never met one. Which was true considering that Vera was the type who would just strike up a conversation with just about anyone, whether she knew them or not. But now, she was getting off topic, she shook her head and smiled again, "So, let me guess, you're a procrastinator too?" she joked. Vera was a procrastinator to the extreme and in fact, this was probably the earliest she had ever been in getting her supplies. Usually, she waited until the last day of Summer or once, she went out the first day of school, early in the morning when Diagon Alley had just opened up to get her supplies, that was a nightmare.

"Oh summer. It was fine, but I missed a lot of the people from school. There are a few other wizarding families in Exeter, but not very many," Molly replied, thinking about all of the magic-less times she had spent with her Muggle friends, "And yours, Gerry? How was summer in the States?" Molly had skipped the part of the summer events, but she assumed Gerry would know her brothers would pull pranks. She looked at her ice cream, judging where the best place was to bite into the cone. It was a very important decision for someone as versed in the ways of ice cream as she was. 'Too bad there's no cheesecake,' she was thinking of her favorite combination... cheesecake, mint ice cream, and chocolate. It had become known as "The Molly" at her summer job.

"Yeah, I know what you mean." Gerry agreed, nodding his head. He licked his ice-cream and continued, "I love being in the 'States and all but, I like it here with my own folk much better." He really did love it in new York and he loved his friends, he just felt more comfortable when he didn't have to hide the fact that he was a wizard from anyone. "My summer was alright. Aside from my friend, Mark's wedding it was pretty uneventful." he said with a shrug, he looked at his ice-cream and pouted, it was starting to melt. He looked up at Molly who seemed to be deep in thought. "Don't think too hard now, Molly. You might hurt yourself!" he joked. Molly was usually good at comebacks and he wanted to know what she was going to say to that remark.

Molly grinned mischievously at Gerry, he was fishing for a comeback, "Oh, you don't need to worry about me hurting myself. It's people like you who get hurt when they think to hard." She took another bite of the cone to make her point. "Besides," she continued jokingly once she had swallowed her bite of cone, "Ice cream is something that deserves a lot of thought, especially the toppings and other items you might mix into it. I couldn't imagine anyone thinking that ice cream choices were not important." Molly felt quite light-hearted to be finally hanging out with a friend from school, particularly Gerry because he seemed to make her laugh every time she talked to him. It was exactly what she'd needed too, her brothers' escapades had caused more stress for her than entertainment. She was the one who had to cover up all of their slips with the rules. But such was the life of an older sister.

Gerry chuckled and said "Well played, Ms.Prewett!". He liked talking with Molly. She was always so funny and he had a lot of fun when he was with her. He took a bite of his butter pecan and thought for a minute. "True. Because if you were to get the wrong ice-cream combo well, the results would be quite ghastly." he said, pretending to be serious. He then scrunched his nose, "Oh no! I've been around you Brits so much that I'm starting to talk British myself!" he said laughing, "I mean "ghastly", really?". He started laughing hysterically, it really wasn't that funny but for some bizarre reason he just found it to be hysterical. He stopped laughing and let out a sigh, poor Molly must've thought he was on drugs or something.

Molly laughed at Gerry's hysteria. Slightly confused at what was so entertaining to him. "Why would speaking like the Brits be a problem, Mr Claythorne? We aren't really all that bad. And besides, we are much more civilized than you Americans." Molly let out a comical little 'humph'. It was a common joke among her friends that the Americans had the IQ of an ape, Molly had gone along with it enthusiastically. Laughing more at the image of Gerry as some Tarzan that was conjured than the actual joke itself. "I must say," Molly continued, straightening in her seat and affecting as snobbish of a tone as possible, "You Americans just don't know when to let those who are more intelligent than you be in control. If you'd have known that, there would not have been any reason for a War in the first place." Leave it to the history buff Molly to bring up the Revolutionary War, the downfall of the brilliant British Empire. She smiled at Gerry with a matter-of-fact look in her eyes. She could berate him forever about the 'inferiority' of Americans, whether or not it had anything to do with him.

"Me? Procrastinate?! Never!" Miri laughed. "I mean, we still have, what, two weeks? Plenty of time!" She stepped in to take a book off the shelf. "But I can't wait to get back. I've had to spend the whole summer on a trip to Europe for 'Family bonding time!' It was fun, but you couldn't pay me to do it again. At least, not if my brother comes along." Miri grimaced. "You know how he is." She stepped in line and purchased her books, and a small, purple journal, getting it all in a bag and paying with silver coins. She walked back over to Vera, looking at the receipt. "Gosh! Prices went up or something! Anyway, how 'bout your summer? Do anything special?"

Gerry pretended to be offended. "See, you Brits happen to think you're so much better than us Americans because you have cool accents but well, to be honest, I'm pretty sure we beat you in that war." he joked. This was fun, and one of the reasons why he liked hanging out with Molly so much. She was quick-witted and to Gerry that was a good thing. A very good thing because to him, being quick-witted is a way of showing how smart you were. He smiled and then added in "Bloody teataxers...." and started to laugh again. He looked at the ice-cream vendor who was starting at him and Molly as if they had two heads or something which just made him laugh even harder.
Vera laughed "That's exactly what I said but my mom wanted me out of the house and Gerry hates when I procrastinate. So, here I am!" she said with a shrug. She always liked Miri, she was always so nice to everyone. "Eh, my summer was alright. Nothing too interesting to report. I just hung around my house all day like a bum." she said with another shrug. She looked back down at her list. Next she needed "Transfiguration: The Art of Transforming". She chuckled "Seriously, what's up with these titles?" she asked and started to laugh again.
