“Bye Mom!” Lily called to the older Muggle standing not fifteen feet from where she was standing. She wanted to make sure that she was heard over the screeching of train brakes and the shrieking of people. She loved her mom, truly she did, but she felt that, as a legal wizarding adult, she should be able to board the Hogwarts Express for the last time by herself. She quickly did a check over on her cart, making sure that she had everything, her trunk, her owl, and any other odds and ends that she was taking before she made her way to the barrier. She probably stood out, most people wore their wizarding robes… but Lily wanted to stay in her Muggle ones as long as possible. Because after this year, she wouldn’t be returning to the Muggle world. She would have to find an apartment, and begin Auror training. There was no way that she could train to be an Auror successfully while living with a Muggle. So, she had decided to wear a pair of shorts and a button up blouse. It still looked professional, but it kept her cool whilst standing in the hot September sun.
After a brief look around to check to make sure no Muggles were watching her, she ran head first towards the barrier separating her from her fellow classmates. She had never tried to simply ‘walk’ through the barrier, for fear of not making it, so every year was the same, she ran… she didn’t want to miss the train. As she stepped onto Platform 9 3/4 , she was greeted by the sound of mewling cats, hooting owls, and the occasional croak of a toad. First years were running around wildly, excited about the new school year. This should be a fun year. Lily thought to herself. As Head Girl, she was expected to show different helpful hints and tasks for the first years to make it easier on them. Maybe next week. She had other things on her mind as of present.
Head Girl. Those words bounced off the interior of her skull. She was Head Girl. Not only that, but… James Potter was Head Boy. Any other year, she would have screamed, kicked and fought anyone who had made this decision, but… she kind of like it this year… After spending a day with him in Diagon Alley, and then his house… she was positive that she had feelings for him. Now, before you go getting any ideas in your little head, Lily fell in Diagon Alley, spraining her ankle and creating a huge gash on the back of her leg. James was a gentleman enough to take her back to his house so that his mom could heal her open wound, and un-sprain her ankle… if that makes any sense. With the shorts she was wearing the scar that remained from the horrendous gash was visible on her left leg.
Lily slowly, and carefully, picked her way through the crowds, careful not to run into anyone. Before long, she found herself on the large red steam engine. From previous knowledge, she headed towards the back of the train, knowing that that is where the Head’s compartment was. She and James had to go over the rules and regulations for being the Heads. She figured that it wouldn’t be too much different that being a prefect, maybe a bit more responsibility, but she could handle that. The secluded dorm thing might be a problem for her though. It would be nice to have her own private place to go to every once in a while… but not when right across the landing, James freaking Potter was having his own little down time. This was going to take time and patience on her part.
Lily lightly set her owl, Wulfric’s, cage on one of the empty seats. She slid in, closing the door behind her. She had arrived pretty early, so she might be here a while. She shoved her Hogwarts trunk underneath the seat and perched herself near the window, enjoying the view that was presented to her. After a few moments, she pulled a book out of her trunk, a simple Muggle novel, and began to read to pass the time. She slightly slid the window open, allowing a cool breeze to hit her face. Maybe this year wouldn’t be so bad…
